Downers Grove, Illinois, debates new physical therapy center
2/26/2010
A rehab therapy and fitness center could soon be launched in downtown Downers Grove, Illinois, brining physical therapy jobs to the area, and extending care to community residents.
ATI Physical Therapy Center has applied to move into a vacant building in the Acadia on the Green development near Main Street and Burlington Avenue, MySuburbanLife.com reports.
The Downers Grove Village Council, which presides over the Chicago suburb, is expected to vote on a lease agreement with ATI in early March.
A vote of approval would give the new physical therapy and fitness center access to 10,000 square feet of space.
Currently, council members are deliberating over the decision to grant ATI Physical Therapy a special-use permit that would allow it to remain open for 24 hours, seven days a week.
While some are concerned of the activity that may bother local residents, Downers Grove Mayor Ron Sandack has said that the downtown area is intended to be a lively place and that the facility could boost a lagging economy, reports the news source.
To apply for a physical therapy license in Illinois, a practitioner must have graduated from a PT program approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, and passed an exam approved by the same group, according to the Illinois Physical Therapy Association.
