<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="font-size: 10pt"><span style="font-family: Verdana"><span style="font-size: 10pt">As a result, Telemedicine or Telehealth is on the rise.&nbsp;Traditionally, telemedicine has been implemented primarily by physicians.&nbsp;Telehealth consults are characterized as an ideal solutions for patients who do not have the ability or solution to seek care outside of an emergency room visit.&nbsp;The idea is that telehealth will be a way to monitor a pre-existing condition from the comfort of their own which is both a time and cost saving measure.</span></span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="font-family: Verdana"><span style="font-size: 10pt"><strong><em><span style="font-size: 10pt">What does this mean to you as a therapist?</span></em></strong><span style="font-size: 10pt">&nbsp;Reflectx has recently been approached to fill therapy specific Telehealth programs within the VA hospital system.&nbsp;It comes as no surprise in an era of Facebook, Twitter, My Space and other almost instantaneous communication tools &#8211; that we now have the ability to communicate in a similar manner when it comes to healthcare and for our purposes &#8211; therapy services.</span></span></span></p>

<span style="font-family: Verdana"><span style="font-size: 10pt">As a travel therapist for Reflectx Services, you would be required to live in close proximity to the specific VA hospital that you would be serving.&nbsp;The process would begin very much like what you do now.&nbsp;The patient would come in for an initial evaluation to allow you to assess what therapy is needed and design a treatment plan accordingly.&nbsp;The ideal skill set for this position would be a strong background in outpatient evaluation and treatment.&nbsp;&nbsp; The fact that the patient does not have to leave home should not allow us to mistakenly perceive it as a home health position.</span></span></span></p>

<span style="font-family: Verdana"><span style="font-size: 10pt">Once completed, the patient would be outfitted with the necessary technology to communicate remotely and sent home.&nbsp;In many cases, it may be a webcam that is outfitted in the patient&#8217;s home. Rremote monitoring would be at &nbsp;pre-arranged times throughout a day or week &#8211; you would connect with the patient to monitor exercises and progress and provide appropriate feedback and guidance.</span></span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="font-size: 10pt"><span style="font-family: Verdana"><span style="font-size: 10pt">&#8220;Remote monitoring is increasingly recognized as a valuable tool for enhancing care quality in chronic disease management,&#8221; says Max E. Stachura, MD, director for the Center for Telehealth at the Medical College of Georgia and the report&#8217;s lead researcher.&nbsp;&#8220;For patients, these technologies mean fewer office and emergency room visits, fewer and reduced duration of hospitalizations, less travel time and expense, and increase access-especially for the elderly, the physically challenged, the homebound and rural patients.&nbsp;For clinicians, they mean more informed decision making, enhanced patient compliance and more efficient case management.&#8221;</span></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="font-family: Verdana">The government requires a little bit more.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>The great news is that if you hold a license in ANY state across the country, it is valid for any VA position, regardless of the state it is in.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; For example, i</span>f you passed the Illinois State Boards for Physical Therapy and currently hold an active license, you can drive across the country to <st1:State w:st="on">California</st1:State> and&nbsp;work in the California VA&nbsp;without applying for a <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">new </st1:place></st1:State>license.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>The extra added benefit of working for a VA is that once you have completed the necessary paperwork to work in a VA setting &#8211; you can work anywhere in the <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">United States</st1:place></st1:country-region> without having to pursue a license for each individual state.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>This can open up a whole new list of possibilities and choices.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><span style="font-family: Verdana">&nbsp;</span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="font-family: Verdana">If you have worked as a traveler or pursued a travel position, the procedure is simple and routine.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>You provide a resume and the necessary paperwork and we work to get you a telephone interview, offer and ultimately a job complete with housing, travel reimbursement.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>This process, in most cases, can take up to a month.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Within the VA system &#8211; the process is similar with one exception - the Government's system called VETPRO.</span></p>

Honestly, now is not any riskier than any other time if you are willing to travel where the jobs are.&nbsp;Traveling can be risky&nbsp;if you have strict constraints on your desired job location(s). The more open you are with job location,&nbsp;the more your chances of staying busy will be strong. <br />

<div>I advise any new traveler to be prepared to consider areas of the country that aren&#8217;t destination spots, but good locations nevertheless to spend 13 weeks. And it doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean you must be open to towns in the middle of nowhere to work as a traveler. Central Texas is not a bad place to start out, because there are a variety of areas where we have traditionally found assignments. Hope that helps answer your question! As a recruiter for a national travel rehab company, I work with dozens of healthcare professionals who are trying their best to coordinate and juggle various responsibilities that come with traveling between assignments every 3-4 months. Something I try my best to do is to help my travelers&#8217; journey be more enjoyable. One way to do this is to create a travel itinerary for the therapist to help make the trip something they can truly look forward to, especially if they have some extra time in between rotations. </div>

<div>Aside from helping map out the trip, I try and find some interesting &#8220;off the beaten path&#8221; spots to visit along the way like a historic monument, a cool landmark, or maybe a quaint bed and breakfast to stay in. Much of it depends on the travelers interests, as well. For instance one of my employees is a civil war enthusiast, so I do my best to locate stops on his trip that were significant to the civil war like a battlefield.&nbsp;This is one of the aspects of my job as a recruiter that I truly enjoy, and its just one more way to give our traveling therapists a "Positively Different Experience."&nbsp;</div>
